Opposition leader, German president discuss Europe after Trump’s election
November 9, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier have discussed the future of Europe after Donald Trump’s election as president of the United States.
The politicians met in the German capital, which marks the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall today.
Steinmeier is well aware of the situation in Europe and hopes that the US and German policy towards Belarus and Ukraine would not change, Cichanoŭskaja has told Pozirk, commenting on the meeting.
“Everyone understands the evil of dictatorship,” she noted. “Mr. Steinmeier believes that there should be more determination and more strong leaders, especially now, when the confrontation between dictatorship and democracy is so tense.”
Trump, who won the November 5 US presidential election, will take office on January 20.
Alaksandar Łukašenka hopes that Washington will change its foreign policy after Trump’s political comeback.
