Journalist serving 18 months in prison for covering 2020 protests
December 19, Pozirk. Journalist Jaŭhien Nikałajevič from Pinsk, Brest region, was given 18 months in prison in early October after the judge found him on guilty of violent disorder in connection with his work as cameraman during 2020 postelection protests, media-polesye.com reported.
The journalist left Belarus after several arrests in 2020 but returned this year. The circumstances of his arrest remain unknown.
Authorities added his name to the “extremist” register after rejecting his appeal earlier this month.
Nikałajevič is one of the 45 media workers held behind bars in Belarus, according to the Belarusian Association of Journalists.
