Marriages drop by more than a quarter over five years

April 8, Pozirk. Belarus registered 46,242 marriages in 2024, 26.3 percent fewer than in 2019, according to Pozirk‘s analysis of data from the National Statistical Committee.
Divorces increased by 1.1 percent to 34,866 over five years.
The Minsk region saw a 30.2-percent fall in marriages and a 9.9-percent rise in divorces.
In terms of marriages, Minsk was better off the regions, reporting a decrease of 23.8 percent to 11,589.
The country’s population shrunk by 1.1 million during Alaksandar Łukašenka’s 30-year rule.
