May 12, Pozirk. The Coordination Council’s (CC) Belarusians faction has put forward businessman Alaksandar Knyrovič as its candidate for the CC speaker weeks after the disappearance of speaker Anžalika Mielnikava, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
A discussion of candidates and the election are scheduled for May 13.
Pavieł Łatuška’s faction, which holds 28 out of 80 seats in CC, plans to nominate Arciom Bruchan, Łatuška’s deputy at the National Anti-Crisis Management.
The Belarusians faction has nine seats on CC. Other groups have not yet proposed any candidates.
Tomorrow, the CC will also vote on amendments to its statute to make provision for two deputy speakers instead of one.
