Belarus has no nukes, drills with Russia target Suwałki – Ukraine

May 26, Pozirk. There are currently no nuclear weapons in Belarus, said Oleh Ivashchenko, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (FISU).
“There are carriers. There are airplanes. There are Iskander tactical operational missile systems. But the fact is that Belarus does not have nuclear weapons,” Ivashchenko told Ukrinform in an interview.
The FISU head noted, however, that Belarus is building storage facilities. “Łukašenka says that they will have the Oreshnik [missile system] by the end of the year, but it looks like wishful thinking. There is nothing like it today and it is unlikely to appear,” he said.
He said that Kyiv has “all the necessary information” on the upcoming Belarusian-Russian Zapad-2025 drill.
“According to the plan of the exercise, an operational episode of the confrontation between two coalitions will be played out,” he said. “One is led by Russia and the other by the countries that support Ukraine—our European partners.”
The FISU head pointed out that the synopsis of every Russian-Belarusian drill provides for capturing the Suwałki Gap between Lithuania and Poland. “These are not fantasies but part of their strategic scenarios,” he emphasized.
However, the Belarusian army is incapable of massive combat operations today, he added.
