Opposition leader eyes strategic talks with Ukraine

February 10, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has expressed hope that her upcoming visit to Kyiv will pave the way for strategic consultations between Belarusian pro-democracy forces and Ukraine.
The politician’s team is currently negotiating the visit with the Ukrainian side, she has told RBC-Ukraine, noting that she hopes it can be scheduled for late February or early March.
Ukraine clearly distinguishes between the Alaksandar Łukašenka regime and the Belarusian people, Cichanoŭskaja said, commenting on her meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on January 25 in Vilnius. “I believe that this is the basis of Ukraine’s new policy towards Belarus,” she added.
“Our meeting sent a very strong and clear signal, and I think that this signal was heard in Belarus,” the politician noted. “The fates of Belarus and Ukraine are deeply intertwined. We proceed from the principle that there will be no free Belarus without a free Ukraine, just as there will be no safe Ukraine without a free Belarus. . . It is in Ukraine’s interest that Belarus be a free, democratic state without Łukašenka.”
