Łukašenka commends security forces at February 23 ceremony

February 23, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka, speaking at a ceremony awarding state honors today, praised Belarus’ security forces as “the bastion of peace and stability” and highlighted their “well-deserved respect” among the population.

“When I recently met with scholars, I said that there is no future without science,” the politician’s press office quoted him as saying. “I would add that without those in uniform, who protect law and order, we would have nothing, not even our country.”

The awards and promotions granted today will serve as a “strong incentive for further work” for the security forces, Łukašenka said. “The West is deliberately stirring up military hysteria, NATO countries’ military budgets are constantly growing and the pace of militarization in Europe, especially among our neighbors to the west, is accelerating,” he noted.

“I am also confident that, if necessary, each of you will do everything, possible and impossible, to defend Belarus without hesitation, reliably and with dignity, as any true officer should,” the Belarusian ruler added.

The politician also stressed the importance of “constantly strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and ensuring its security.”

Belarus’ security forces actively participated in suppressing post-election protests in Belarus in 2020. Politicially-motivated reprisals continue unabated in the country since then. Experts also attribute Łukašenka’s continued hold on power to Russian assistance, which allowed the Kremlin to further solidify its control over his regime and use Belarus for launching a full-scale war on Ukraine in February 2022.
