November 3, Pozirk. The Free Belarus Museum in Warsaw is hosting an art exhibition highlighting the support of Belarusians for Ukraine in its ongoing war against Russia.

Titled “Belarusians with Ukraine in Their Hearts,” the two-week exhibition began on October 31, featuring 21 paintings by 10 Belarusian artists, members of the dissolved Pahonia group within the Belarusian Union of Artists.

The artists include Aleś Puškin, who died in a Belarusian prison in 2023, and former political prisoner Hienadź Drazdoŭ, as well as Aleś Cyrkunoŭ, Andrej Takindanh and Ukraine’s Taras Nosar.

Their paintings depict destroyed buildings, soldiers and volunteers, as well as everyday life in communities transformed by war, reflecting their 2025 visit to the so-called Anti-Terrorist Operation zone in southeastern Ukraine, including Pisky, Volnovakha, Novohrodivka and the area around Donetsk airport.

The exhibition is also dedicated to members of the Belarus Tactical Group who died defending Ukraine in 2015.

The organizers note that Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 gave the paintings a new significance, turning them into a reminder that the war against Ukraine had begun long before 2022.

The exhibits include portraits of Michaił Žyźnieŭski, killed during the Euromaidan protests in Kyiv in January 2014, and Aleś Čarkašyn, who died fighting for Ukraine.

One of the speakers at the opening ceremony described the slain Belarusian soldiers as fighters for the freedom of both Ukraine in Belarus, which is “facing double oppression: Russian occupation, with Russian troops behaving like masters on Belarusian territory, and a regime that abuses people and pushes them to the brink of survival.”

After the Warsaw exhibition, the collection is expected to go on display in other Polish cities.
