September 28, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka has signed an edict appointing Col. Alaksandar Bykaŭ as chief of staff and first deputy commander of the internal troops.
He filled the position left vacant by Maj. Gen. Ihar Burmistraŭ transferred to the reserve on retirement, with the right to wear military uniform and insignia.
Interior ministry troops were involved in suppressing mass protests in 2020 and smaller protests in previous years.
