The sovereignty of Ukraine and Belarus is of strategic importance to us, Polish President Duda says

January 29, BPN. The sovereignty of Ukraine and Belarus is of strategic importance for Poland, Polish President Andrzej Duda said on January 28 following a meeting of the National Security Council.

According to Duda, the concentration of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine is “unprecedented since 1989.” Duda said that the situation in the region was particularly important for Warsaw because “Poland is a member of NATO and the EU directly bordering Ukraine and Belarus.”

In this respect, he stressed, “the security, sovereignty and freedom” of both Ukraine and Belarus were “important and strategic” issues for Poland.

The National Security Council meeting was attended by representatives of the president’s office, the Polish government and the leaders of the parliamentary factions. The meeting focused on defining domestic and international policy against the backdrop of the threat of Russian invasion of Ukraine.
