Aliaksandr Vasilievič, co-founder of the online magazines kyky.org and The Village Belarus released in the courtroom after verdict

On February 4, the Saviecki District Court of Minsk found political prisoner Aliaksandr Vasilievič guilty of tax evasion (Article 243 of the Criminal Code), sentencing him to three years in a general regime penal colony. However, Vasilievič was released in the courtroom, the unregistered Viasna Human Rights Center reported.

According to Radio Svaboda, judge Maryna Fiodarava decided to release Vasilievič, as “the period of prosecution had expired.”

The trial of the co-founder of the online magazines kyky.org and The Village Belarus, the owner of the Vondel/Hepta agency and the Ў Gallery, 47-year-old Aliaksandr Vasilievič, began on January 24.

The state prosecutor applied for the trial to be held in a closed session. He said that the court would examine the activities of companies not specified in the indictment, while the files of some witnesses were transferred to a separate proceeding for verification.

Vasilievič was detained on August 28, 2020 and accused of tax evasion. All this time he remained in custody. In December 2020, his daughter was born.

On October 10, 2020, Vasilievič participated in a meeting with Aliaksandr Lukašenka in the KGB detention center.
