Political prisoner Safija Malaševič, unavailable to contact for about a month, is in a punishment cell

February 14, BPN. 19-year-old political prisoner Safija Malaševič, unavailable to contact for about a month, is held in a punishment cell, Viasna Human Rights Center reports with reference to the girl’s mother.

She is in Homiel prison No. 4.

Malaševič’s mother lost contact with her daughter for almost a month: no letters or phone calls were received from her. The penal colony did not answer the questions about her whereabouts.

When the lawyer was able to visit the prisoner, it turned out that she was to be released from the punishment cell on February 17. The next day Safija Malaševič will turn 20.

“She’s fine. She asked for postcards from those who wished to congratulate her on her birthday,” said the mother of the political prisoner.

The girl was detained on September 6, 2020, during the Unity March rally, when she wrote on the anti-riot shields with spray paint.

Malaševič was sentenced to two years in a penal colony under Article 342 (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order), Article 368 (insulting the president), and Article 339, part 1 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code.
