Cichanoŭskaja and Blinken discuss the situation in Belarus and the international response “to the regime’s actions”
February 20, BPN. Sviatlana Cichanoŭskaja and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who are in Germany at the Munich Security Conference (February 18-20), discussed the situation in Belarus and the international response “to the regime’s actions.”
“Cichanoŭskaja noted that the human rights situation was deteriorating, repressions were intensifying, and the regime was starting to trade Belarusian sovereignty. Lukašenka has lost his independence and is ready to return nuclear weapons to the country. Belarus is of crucial importance for security in Europe and should be in the center of international attention,” the press service of the Belarusian democratic leader reported after the talks.
“Great to meet once again with Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Cichanoŭskaja. We stand with those on the side of democracy in Belarus and their vision for their country’s future,” Blinken wrote on Twitter after the talks.
This is the second meeting of Cichanoŭskaja and Blinken. Their first meeting took place on July 19, 2021 as part of Cichanoŭskaja’s visit to the United States. Her talks with President Joe Biden took place at the same time.
