Cichanoŭskaja called on women of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine to resist war together
February 26, BPN. Belarusian democratic leader Sviatlana Cichanoŭskaja called on the women of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine to jointly resist the war.
“Who of us needs this war? Definitely not the people of Ukraine, whose cities are being bombed right now. Certainly not the people of Russia, who are terribly ashamed of what the army is doing on their behalf. And definetely not the Belarusian people, who now regularly hear that Belarus is no longer a country at all, because our sovereignty is really under threat,” Cichanoŭskaja said.
She stated that Ukraine is now “defending itself against soldiers from Russia, and the autocrats are ready to send soldiers from Belarus.” “Now in Ukraine, women are hiding their children in basements from your husbands and sons, shuddering at shells launched by your husbands and sons,” the politician noted.
She is convinced that Belarusian, Ukrainian, and Russian women want to stop the war, but desire “is no longer enough,” so we must “speak out, shout, make our voices loud, united, and systematic.”
Cichanoŭskaja admired the courage of Ukrainian women and sympathized with their grief, asking them for forgiveness on behalf of all Belarusians.
She urged Belarusian women to help “with care, money, transportation, shelter, or a kind word,” as well as to find like-minded women and “say their ‘No to War!’ in whatever form it is possible now.” “There are many examples in history when women’s voices confronted wars and humanitarian disasters,” Cichanoŭskaja stressed.
The politician asked Russian women to support her appeal to the Russian Federation and to unite, to explain to conscripts what is really going on, and to fight the propaganda.
