Ponton units training held on Nioman

June 15, BPN. An assembly of servicemen of the Armed Forces’ ponton units is taking place on a bank of the Nioman on June 14-27, the Defense Ministry’s press service said.

Dedicated units of the 557th engineering brigade (Hrodna), 7th engineering regiment (Barysaŭ, Minsk region) and 188th guards engineering brigade (Mahiloŭ) are involved in the training.

The assembly is led by Andrej Kurakoŭ, the head of the engineering troops directorate at the Armed Forces’ General Staff.

“The assembly’s main goals is the personnel getting and improving the practical skills of equipping and maintaining bridges and ferries, as well as the Armed Forces’ team preparing for the Open Water competitions that will take place on the Oka, near Russia’s Murom, as part of the 2022 International Army Games,” he said.

On February 24, Russia started what it called a special military operation in Ukraine. Authorities in Minsk deny Belarusian army troops’ involvement in combat operations on the Russian side. However, Alaksandr Łukašenka admitted in the May 5 interview with AP that Russian troops entered Ukraine and launched missiles from Belarusian territory.
