June 17, BPN. Judge Alaksandr Śarhiej of the Peršamajski District Court in Minsk sentenced Alaksiej Vialeška, a native of Salihorsk, Minsk region, on June 16 to two years in prison and a fine of 3,200 rubles (about $1,250) for insulting Alaksandr Łukašenka and public officials, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.
The prosecutor accused Vialeška of posting abusive comments about Łukašenka, the chair of the central election commission, and the prosecutor general between April and August 2021.
The man pleaded guilty to the charges. He has paid 10,000 rubles (about $3,900) in damages awarded against him in a separate lawsuit filed by Prosecutor General Andrej Šved.
