Imprisoned activist’s whereabouts unknown – relatives
June 24, BPN. The whereabouts of imprisoned activist Palina Šarenda-Panasiuk have been unknown for 10 days, her husband Andrej Šarenda told Belsat TV on June 23.
“Palina has virtually disappeared,” he said. According to him, prisons in Homiel and Mahiloŭ, as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ department of corrections, leave relatives’ inquiries unanswered.
On April 7, a court in Homiel added a year on top of her sentence for “malicious disobedience” to prison administrators.
The activist of the European Belarus campaign, Palina Šarenda-Panasiuk is a mother of two minor sons. In June 2021 a court in Brest found her guilty of violence against a police officer and insulting officials and sentenced her to two years in prison.
The husband left the country to avoid prosecution, but the children stayed with their grandmother in Belarus.
Human rights groups declared her a political prisoner.
