Dissident sentenced to three years for insulting Łukašenka and his minister

June 28, BPN. A court in Minsk on June 27 sentenced arrested dissident Iryna Alabovič, 63, to three years in prison, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported

Alabovič was arrested on April 1 in a criminal case for allegedly insulting Deputy Interior Minister Mikałaj Karpiankoŭ. She was later charged with threatening violence towards an internal affairs officer and insulting Alaksandr Łukašenka. The woman suffers from diabetes.

In a separate development, a court in Minsk on June 23 sentenced Taćciana Vadapjan, 49, to two years of restricted freedom, a type of home confinement, for a “political graffiti,” human rights activists said.

Offenders sentenced to restricted freedom without referral to an open-type correctional facility are confined to their residence during non-working hours and are required to retain or seek employment. Law enforcement officers can visit their home or place of employment anytime to make sure they comply with the terms of confinement.
