Canada to impose new sanctions on Belarus

June 28, BPN. Canada will impose additional sanctions against individuals and entities associated with the defense sector of Russia and Belarus, the Office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reported on June 27.

The restrictions will affect 13 Belarusian officials and security officers, as well as two unnamed companies.

Canada is also banning exports to Belarus of advanced technology and goods that can be used for the production of weapons, as well as imports and exports of “a broad range of luxury goods between Canada and Belarus.”

Six individuals and 46 legal entities associated with the Russian defense sector and 15 Ukrainian citizens who support Russian military aggression are subject to the restrictions.

The new restrictions are said to be imposed to support the government and people of Ukraine in their fight against Russian aggression.

“Canada is unwavering in the belief that Ukrainians deserve to live in peace. Vladimir Putin and his regime have caused untold pain and suffering in Ukraine and across the world. Together, with our G7 counterparts, Canada is stepping up our continuous and coordinated pressure to bring about the end of Vladimir Putin’s war of choice,” Trudeau said.
