Rail transportation of goods abroad down 40 percent

September 18, BPN. Rail transportation of cargoes abroad fell by 40 percent year-over-year in 2022, Belarusian Railway head Uładzimir Marozaŭ has said.

“In fact, rail transportation of cargoes out of the country decreased by almost nine million tons,” he told STV, linking the decline to tense relations with Ukraine and Western sanctions.

According to him, the Belarusian infrastructure allows sending up to 160 freight trains abroad per day. However, today it runs 60-70 trains per day. “Understand that these are the cargoes that, rationally speaking, would have to go through our country anyway,” Marozaŭ said.
