October 27, BPN. The Minsk City Court has sentenced freelancer Alaksandr Lubiančuk to three years in prison, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) reported.
Judge Alena Ananič found him guilty on charges of creating an extremist group and participating in it.
BAJ has denounced the verdict and described it as a retaliation for Lubiančuk’s professional activity. Human rights groups consider him political prisoner.
Police arrested the journalist on criminal charges in May. In October 2020 he had served 15 days in jail for covering a protest rally in Minsk.
