Russia may use Belarus to target western Ukraine, cut Western supplies – Ukraine’s intelligence

October 30, BPN. Currently Russia has about 4,300 soldiers in Belarus and the threat of an invasion from this direction remains low, Kyrylo Budanov of the Ukrainian defense ministry’s intelligence department told The Warzone.

At the same time, the situation can change very quickly when Russia loses Kherson, he said. It may transfer some of the troop in the Zaporizhzhia direction and to Belarus, creating a threat there, Budanov noted.

These troops may be used to target the western Ukraine and cut off Western supply lines rather than attacking Kyiv again, he warned.

On October 10, Alaksandr Łukašenka announced that Belarus and Russia would deploy a joint regional group due to “a build-up on the Union state’s western borders.” Russian soldiers started arriving in Belarus on October 15.

The Ukrainian military command called on Belarusians not to follow orders to enter the war against Ukraine to avoid responsibility for war crimes already committed by the Russian army.
