Poland: Students from Belarus to continue studies after education deal breaks down
October 31, BPN. All the Belarusian nationals enrolled in Polish schools will continue their education, spokeswoman for the Polish education ministry Adrianna Całus-Polak has told BPN.
Commenting on Minsk’s October 25 decision to withdraw from an agreement with Warsaw on recognizing each other’s undergraduate, graduate and arts degrees, she said: “For people from Belarus who want to get an education in Poland in the future, nothing will change after the agreement’s termination. The norms in force in Poland allow people who studied abroad to continue to receive education.”
“According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, 11,000 students from Belarus studied in Poland in the 2021/22 academic year. They accounted for 13 percent of all foreign students in Poland. According to UNESCO, 10 Polish nationals studied in Belarus in 2021,” she said.
The ministry does not know how Poles’ right to receive education in Belarus will be affected now that the agreement has been terminated, she added.
The agreement was signed in the Polish capital on April 28, 2005.
