EU to keep sanctioning Russia, Belarus over war in Ukraine – Lithuanian president
November 1, BPN. Lithuania and the European Union must prepare a new package of targeted and effective sanctions against Russia and Belarus, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda told Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece on October 31.
The EU should also strengthen the defense of NATO’s eastern flank, he noted.
“The recent actions of the Kremlin regime to destroy critical civilian infrastructure in Ukraine using missiles and drones is further evidence of grave war crimes,” the Lithuanian president was quoted by his press office as saying. A special tribunal should investigate war crimes and their perpetrators must be held accountable, Nausėda added.
He also noted the need to step up the EU efforts “to combat Russia’s attempts to rewrite history and impose totalitarian-regime narratives.”
