Opposition CFO says opponents’ uncivilized methods forced her to resign

November 3, BPN. “Politics is not easy, especially when you face off against uncivilized adversaries,” Taćciana Zareckaja, who has stepped down as the opposition’s chief finance officer citing threats, told BPN.

She announced her resignation on November 2, citing external pressure. “I can’t imagine how Sviatłana [Cichanoŭskaja] has been dealing with all this for two and a half years,” she said.

Zareckaja was responsible for advocacy, expanding contacts with stakeholders, and planning the 2023 budget during her two-months tenure in the transition cabinet.

“Someone who knows how to find funding, who has connections and contacts, is a serious target [for opponents] because financing is important for any movement,” she said. At the same time, Zareckaja stressed that she would continue to defend herself and her company’s reputation.

She also admitted that she did not feel safe even after resignation. “I won’t feel safe until my family, my loved ones, my staff, partners, and investors are safe,” she said.

Zareckaja, 28, resides in Estonia and joined the cabinet on September 9. The Laava Tech cofounder and CEO is listed in Forbes’ 30 under 30.
