Belarus lashes out at Ukraine after spotting armored vehicle in border area

November 4, BPN. The Belarusian State Border Committee has described as provocation a Ukrainian military vehicle’s movements near a border checkpoint.

The committee published a video of an APC carrying people in military uniform on board towards the “Zhytomyr region” sign in the Ukrainian-Belarusian border area.

“At 1.23pm on October 29, video surveillance cameras at the Hłuškavičy checkpoint recorded the movement of a Ukrainian BTR-80 with a group of militia dressed in uniform towards the border with Belarus,” the committee said. The APC then turned around and “headed back into Ukrainian territory at 1.33.”

To “respond to this provocation,” Belarusian border guards “took up firing positions to repel possible aggression and destroy military hardware and manpower in the event of a border violation.”

The border guards said Ukrainian “paramilitary groups” near the border have “low discipline,” which contributes to “the emergence of provocative situations on the border and may lead to an armed clash.”

Ukraine has not commented on the report so far.

Earlier, Belarus’ border patrol chief, Anatol Lapo, said he was concerned about the situation on the border with Poland and Ukraine.
