Belstat: foreigners invest $5.3bn in Belarus’ real economy over nine months

November 14, BPN. Foreign investors put $5.3 billion in the real sector of Belarus’ economy in January-September, the statistics committee Belstat has said.

Residents of Russia (50.4 percent of all investments), Cyprus (17.7 percent), the Netherlands (5.2 percent) and Ukraine (4 percent) were the main investors.

Foreign direct investment amounted to $4.6 billion, 87.4 percent of total foreign investment.

Investments from Belarus over this period amounted to $4.2 billion.

“Significant amounts of investments were directed by Belarusian organizations to Russia (85.2 percent of total investments), Ireland (2.6 percent) and Ukraine (2.2 percent),” Belstat said. The share of the direct Belarusian investments was 90.4 percent.

The statistics committee said these figures do not include investments in banks, non-bank financial institutions, the Development Bank and budget organizations.

Previously, Belstat reported that investments in fixed assets in Belarus amounted to 19.5 billion rubels, about $7.7 billion, in January-September.
