Belarus votes against UN resolution calling on Russia to pay war reparations to Ukraine

November 14, BPN. Belarus was among 13 states that voted against a UN General Assembly resolution calling on Russia to pay war reparations to Ukraine.

Russia, Iran, China, Cuba, Syria, North Korea, Nicaragua, Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Ethiopia, the Central African Republic, and Mali also voted against.

Ninety-four countries voted to hold Russia accountable for violating international law and human rights by invading Ukraine.

The UN supported Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, demanding that Russia immediately cease hostilities and withdraw its troops from the territory within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine.

Former USSR countries, including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine voted in favor of the resolution, while Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan abstained, and Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan did not vote.
