Łukašenka holding Belarusians prisoners of Russia’s war against Ukraine – German foreign minister
November 15, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has turned Belarusians into prisoners of Russia’s war against Ukraine by his “fraternizing with the Russian president and supporting the Russian war of aggression,” Germany’s Handelsblatt quoted German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock as saying.
The European Union will do all it can for this captivity to end and for Belarus to live in freedom and democracy, she told the EU foreign ministers in Brussels on November 14. The meeting also included an informal breakfast with Belarusian opposition leader Sviatłana Cichanoŭskaja.
People “who only wanted to take care of the future of their children” are accused of terrorism in Belarus, Baerbock noted, adding that the Łukašenka regime was responsible for serious violations of human rights for a long time. She assured Cichanoŭskaja that the EU will support ordinary Belarusians.
Cichanoŭskaja urged the EU to act decisively to resolve the political crisis in Belarus, help Belarusians defend their independence, and acknowledge Łukašenka’s role in the war.
