After Warsaw, Łukašenka turns fire on Latvian leaders on Independence Day

November 18, BPN. Latvians increasingly feel that their politicians look up to foreign advisers neglecting their own people, Alaksandr Łukašenka said in his message to Latvians on Independence Day.

“They have dragged forces and weapons into the Baltics, built walls and pushed your country closer to an economic disaster to stir up the situation,” he said.

The Belarusians have never initiated military conflicts, and have always treated their neighbors with “friendliness and respect,” Łukašenka was quoted by his press office. “Today Belarus remains a peace-loving state, a supporter of dialogue and common security in the region.”

He also described the centuries-old bilateral ties as a solid foundation for the restoration of mutually beneficial friendly relations between Belarus and Latvia.

The message echoes the narrative of Łukašenka’s recent Independence Day message to the Polish people. In that message, the Belarusian ruler drew a line between ordinary people and politicians, urging the Poles to elect new leaders in the next election.
