Soldiers to have contracts terminated for disloyalty to authorities

November 22, BPN. Political disloyalty is a reason for early termination of military service contracts with soldiers, says the Belarusian defense ministry’s directive dated October 12.

The amended instruction on military service contracts has entered into force on November 22 after its publication on the National Legal Internet Portal.

It lists actions that can lead to contract termination, including personal data breaches that can harm public interests, participation in antigovernment protests, and producing and distributing content branded extremist.

The latter includes subscription to critical media outlets that have been labeled extremist. Subscription carries punishment, including criminal charges.

Some security personnel openly sympathized with protesters during the 2020 post-election protests. Protesters also shared personal data of hundreds of officers involved in human rights abuses.
