Cichanoŭskaja asks Canada to target Belarus’ state media, law enforcers, justice officials

November 23, BPN. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has suggested to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that sanctions should be expanded against members of Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime.

“During the meeting today, I spoke about the need for a consolidated G7 strategy on Belarus, about taking measures to protect Belarusian independence,” Cichanoŭskaja said, as quoted by her press office.

“I suggested adding Łukašenka’s TV channels, law-enforcement agencies, judges and prosecutors to the sanctions list,” she continued.

Besides, the opposition leader asked Trudeau to support the Belarusian diaspora, also telling him about the Rada of the Belarusian People’s Republic, an advocacy group originating from the 1910s exiled government. The group’s leader Ivonka Survilla lives in Canada.

Cichanoŭskaja said that humanitarian aid will be provided to Belarusian volunteers as part of assistance for Ukraine.

She called the conversation with Trudeau “sincere and informative.”

The opposition leader visited Canada from November 18 to 23.
