Lithuania’s interior ministry terminates cooperation agreement with its Belarusian counterpart
November 25, BPN. Lithuania sees no opportunities for cooperation with “hostile regimes,” said Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė announcing the termination of a bilateral agreement on cooperation with the Belarusian interior ministry.
The agreement signed in 1993 is of no practical use since the unfair presidential election in Belarus in 2020, she added.
She described Belarus as the “closest ally of the Kremlin regime that continues its hybrid attack against Lithuania,” referring to the illegal migrant crisis dating back to 2021. It cannot and will not be Lithuania’s partner in any area, she stressed.
Lithuania has a number of bilateral agreements with Belarus on cooperation in interior matters. A government decision along with several interdepartmental approvals are required to terminate them.
Earlier, Lithuania suspended EU-funded cross-border cooperation programs with Belarus and Russia.
