Russian deputy foreign minister to attend Makiej’s funeral

November 28, BPN. Russian state-owned news agency RIA Novosti has reported that Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko will attend the funeral of Belarusian Foreign Minister Uładzimir Makiej in Minsk on November 29.

Rudenko coordinated relations with Belarus and other post-Soviet countries and met Makiej many times, it wrote. The farewell ceremony will take place at the Officers’ House, the burial – at the Eastern Cemetery.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to the Belarusian capital has been canceled after Makiej died on November 26, aged 64. Lavrov was expected to meet with Alaksandr Łukašenka and Belarusian diplomats on November 27-28.
