Official vows to expand accessible environment for people with disabilities

November 30, BPN. People with disabilities have access only 18 percent of Belarusian facilities, Maryna Arciomienka, deputy minister of labor and social security, told journalists.

Belarus has a long way to go, she said, noting that about 8,000 facilities will be fully accessible by 2025.

A law governing the rights of people with disabilities and social inclusion will come into force in January 2023. Arciomenka noted that the notion “barrier-free environment” was replaced with “accessible environment” in the bill to guarantee access to facilities to every person with intellectual, physical or sensory disabilities.
