Russia-dominated bloc plans no increase in peacekeeping force – official

December 19, BPN. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) doesn’t see any need to increase its peacekeeping force in the region, CSTO Secretary-General Stanisłaŭ Zaś has told a press conference in Moscow.

“This is not our plan,” the Belarusian statesman said. “We consider the backbone of 3,800 peacekeepers to be sufficient. If necessary, we can quickly deploy a large group of forces.”

Speaking about the CSTO’s western borders, Zaś said member states’ joint activities on Belarusian territory have a strategic deterrence function.
