Łukašenka: special operations drills expose flaws
December 22, BPN. The recent drills of special operations forces exposed “shortcomings” that could result in deaths in the event of military action, Alaksandr Łukašenka has told security and defense officials in Minsk.
“We all have to learn,” Łukašenka said, as quoted by his press office. “No-one rules out the possibility of terrorist groups attacking Belarus from within (which is practically impossible) and abroad, seizing an individual building, a house, a state institution, a school or, God forbid, a populated area. And that’s when we carry out an anti-terrorist operation.”
He went on to say that a proper environment was created for the drills. Partial occupation of a town was staged by the most trained soldiers, he said. “Our guys from special operations forces acted. They were opposed by an antiterrorist unit led by the Committee for State Security,” he added.
Łukašenka instructed commanders to objectively evaluate the results of these exercises in order to avoid mistakes during military operations.
The authorities in Minsk regularly claim that NATO and Ukraine are preparing an attack on Belarus. At the same time, Kyiv does not rule out a new invasion of Russian troops from Belarus, like the one that was organized at the beginning of the war in February.
