Opposition declares 2023 “Year of Belarusian Language and National Revival”
December 31, BPN. The opposition’s transition cabinet has declared 2023 “Year of Belarusian Language and National Revival.”
Its Telegram channel quoted cabinet member Alina Koŭšyk as calling 2022 a dark year: “It was one of the most difficult years. The year when war broke out. The year of incessant repression, nationwide depression and seeming despair.”
“But on the other hand, it was the year of firm confidence that our struggle goes on,” she added. “The year that convinced us that we will fight for our country. The year of Belarusian heritage as a value and of political awareness that we need the national revival. The year when we clearly realized that culture is our weapon in the fight for the future.”
The CIS, a Russian-led union, had declared 2023 “Year of Russian Language.” Alaksandr Łukašenka praised this decision.
