Taiwan further limits technology exports to Belarus, Russia

January 5, BPN. Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) imposed new controls on technology exports to Russia and Belarus, its website says.

The move should prevent the use of Taiwan-made goods for military purposes and is in line with Taiwan’s international cooperation policies, it added.

The updated list features 52 items, primarily related to nuclear energy substances and chemicals.

Earlier, Taiwan limited exports of some microprocessors and chips to Belarus accusing Minsk of direct involvement in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Taiwanese companies cannot export over 100 types of technological products to Belarus and Russia without special permission. The list includes equipment for making semiconductors, lasers, and navigation systems.

On February 24, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine. Alaksandr Łukašenka admitted that Belarus participated in Russia’s war on Ukraine, but said it was “not killing anyone.”

Authorities in Minsk denied Belarusian army troops’ involvement in combat operations on the Russian side. However, Belarus allowed Russian troops and weapons to move freely through the country, use its airspace, refuel and store military equipment and attack Ukraine from its territory.

In connection with the military aggression, democratic countries imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia, while significant restrictive measures, albeit on a smaller scale, were introduced against Belarus.
