Belarus’ border guards report isolated provocations from Ukraine
January 5, BPN. Belarusian border guards have recorded “isolated instances of provocations” from the Ukrainian side, said a border official in a video published by the State Border Committee’s press office.
The latest incident took place at the Paddabranka border checkpoint, he added. Ukrainian soldiers allegedly pointed weapons in the direction of Belarusian border guards and made offensive gestures.
“The officers of the border control units do not respond to provocations,” the official stressed. “They are vigilant and ready for various possible actions.”
Belarus reinforced border protection at its shared border with Ukraine and the border units are well-trained and equipped, he added.
Belarusian border guards keep hearing shots and heavy equipment noise from Ukrainian areas, the official noted. They also know that their Ukrainian counterparts have dug a three-meter-deep anti-tank trench, he said.
Currently, border authorities focus on guarding airspace and the areas in the vicinity of the checkpoints. In winter, few Ukrainian drones fly across the border because cold weather negatively affects their performance, the official added.
