Belarus’ prime minister says Russia should boost its import substitution

February 3, BPN. Russia should better coordinate its import substitution effort with Belarus, Belarusian Prime Minister Raman Hałoučanka told his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin at their February 2 meeting in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

“We have reviewed 20 Russian programs that are available to us, and we can see that Belarusian companies can cover some commodity items,” he said. “I am confident that Russian manufacturers will also be able to enter the Belarusian import substitution programs unhindered.”

In November 2022, the Belarusian government announced plans to implement 12 joint import substitution projects with Russia in Belarus, worth 105 billion Russian rubles (about $1.74 billion).
