Video journalist faces criminal charges

February 5, BPN. Authorities filed criminal charges against cameraman Pavieł Padabied but did not disclose any further details, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) reported.

Police arrested Padabied on January 20, searched his home, and jailed him for 15 days for alleged “dissemination of extremist content,” a charge often used to silence regime critics.

Pro-government media published a picture of his press ID from the days he worked at the now-defunct BelaPAN media company.

Authorities transferred Padabied to Detention Center No 1 on Vaładarskaha Street in Minsk after he had served his jail term.
