Belarus expecting more helicopter gunships, aircraft from Russia
February 6, BPN. The Belarusian army received a Tor-M2 air defense missile system from Russia “just a couple of weeks ago,” Andrej Łukjanovič, commander of the Belarusian Air/Air Defense Forces, told STV in an interview broadcast this past weekend.
A squadron of Mi-35M helicopters will arrive from Russia in April, but only four of them will remain in Belarus, he added, noting that the pilots have already completed the necessary training.
This year, the army also plans to boost its air defense systems by procuring SU-30SM aircraft. Troops will be supplied with the Rosa and Vostok, Belarusian-made radar systems, as well as a large quantity of ammunition for aircraft, Łukjanovič said. He did not disclose the terms of these deals.
