Cichanoŭskaja concerned about Russia’s absorption of Belarus
February 17, BPN. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has asked the European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell to watch out for Russia’s absorption of Belarus.
The two politicians briefly met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, an aide to Cichanoŭskaja told BPN.
“Cichanoŭskaja emphasized that Alaksandr Łukašenka gives up Belarusian independence to Russia, therefore the world should react strongly,” the aide said.
The opposition leader also met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
“The EU strongly supports the democratic forces in Belarus. We stand together against an oppressive regime and an accomplice in Russia’s war. We support the courageous civil society. And we keep the pressure high with sanctions against Belarus,” von der Leyen tweeted following the meeting.
