Łukašenka to visit Iran in mid-March

February 21, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka plans to visit Iran in mid-March at the invitation of the Iranian president, the Belarusian leader said at his meeting with Iran’s outgoing Ambassador Saeed Yari.

“I am absolutely convinced that this meeting and talks in Iran would be meaningful and would take us to a higher level of cooperation,” Łukašenka’s press office quoted him as saying.

In 2021, trade between Belarus and Iran amounted to $33.3 million. No official data has been made public for 2022. Trade tripled last year and was around $100 million, according to Yari.

Iran has been under the UN Security Council’s sanctions for 15 years over its nuclear program. In 2022, it was criticized for supplying military products to Russia to support it in its war against Ukraine.
