Mazyr woman blacklisted over “terrorist activity”
February 22, BPN. The Committee for State Security (KGB) added Volha Šeŭčyk, 30, a resident in Mazyr, Homiel region, to its register of individuals and entities involved in “terrorist activity.”
In late November 2022, the Homiel Regional Court found Šeŭčyk guilty of five criminal offences, including inciting hatred, participating in protests, insulting public officials and threatening a judge. Authorities persecuted her over comments in the Telegram messaging app.
Šeŭčyk’s trial was closed to the public and authorities did not disclose the verdict.
The KGB’s blacklist has a total of 1,015 entries, including 268 Belarusians.
The law enforcement agencies and state propaganda portray opposition activists as terrorists as part of the government’s crackdown on dissent.
