Bucharest Nine slams Belarus for backing Russia’s war in Ukraine
February 23, BPN. Bucharest Nine (B9) leaders have condemned the Belarusian authorities for backing Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“We are determined to sustain international pressure on Russia. We also condemn all those, including Belarus, who are actively facilitating Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” they said in a joint statement.
The summit of nine countries of NATO’s eastern flank took place in Warsaw on February 22. B9 comprises Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US President Joe Biden also participated in the event.
This was Biden’s second visit to Poland in less than a year. Speaking in Warsaw on February 21, he acknowledged the Belarusians’ fight for freedom. “Brave leaders of the opposition and the people of Belarus continue to fight for their democracy,” he said.
