Prominent Belarusian playwright dies

February 28, BPN. Prominent playwright Alaksiej Dudaraŭ has died aged 72, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) reports, quoting the Union of Theater Workers that he headed.

Dudaraŭ was born on June 6, 1950 in the village of Klany, Viciebsk region. He graduated from an oil technical school in Navapołack, and then worked as a mechanic at an oil refinery.

In 1976, he graduated from the Belarusian Institute of Theater and Arts, now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, and became an actor of the Belarusian Republican Theater for Young Audiences.

In 1992-2002, Dudaraŭ was the editor in chief of the Mastactva magazine. He later worked as artistic director of the Belarusian Army’s Drama Theater.

He wrote plays, short stories, fairy tales and movie scripts. His plays were staged in theaters across the country.
