Polish premier: Łukašenka regime to face heavier sanctions package
March 28, BPN. The announcement that tactical nuclear weapons would be deployed in Belarus would certainly lead to heavier sanctions on Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has told reporters in Bucharest.
Morawiecki said he was communicating with European leaders on almost a daily basis regarding the 11th package of sanctions on Russia, which is expected to include measures against Minsk.
As a country bordering Belarus, Poland is also considering tighter regulations on the movement of goods and people to “send Łukašenka a very clear signal that Poland does not accept the actions de facto serving Russia in its aggressive policy against Ukraine, Poland and other EU countries,” he added.
Vladimir Putin said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel on March 25 that a special storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus would be completed by July 1.
One day earlier, the Polish minister for the European Union, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, said that sanctions on Belarus should be similar to those against Russia.
