Information ministry revokes Setanta Sports’ Belarus license
April 7, BPN. The Belarusian Ministry of Information has canceled Setanta Sports’ broadcasting license. It affects television channels Setanta Sport 1 and Setanta Sport 2, the ministry’s press office said on April 7.
The decision was taken by an information security commission under the aegis of the Security Council. It will take effect on April 12.
Setanta Sports told BPN that the termination of the license may be connected with its position on the war in Ukraine.
On March 4, Setanta Sports Ukraine announced that it would not broadcast the Dubai tennis championships’ final between Russians Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev.
“We make sure that our viewers enjoy watching tournaments and are inspired by the true values of sport. Glory to Ukraine!” Setanta Sports Ukraine said in a statement.
Setanta Sports is an international television company with offices in Dublin, Ireland and Tbilisi, Georgia. It broadcasts sports competitions through Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, the Philippines, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
In Belarus, Setanta Sports’ broadcasts are available on cable networks.
